Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, during a meeting with the ambassador of Palestine, said on Tuesday it was imperative that the world mobilized to put an early end to the unfolding human tragedy due to disproportionate and unlawful use of force by Israeli forces in Palestine.

“At this critical juncture, it is imperative that the international community mobilize to put an early end to unfolding human tragedy due to disproportionate and unlawful use of force by Israeli Defence Forces. The world must desist from encouraging them to continue atrocities in manifest violation of all norms of civility and humane conduct, “ the COAS said while talking to Ambassador Ahmad Jawad Rabei at the General Headquarters here on Tuesday.

The COAS reiterated Pakistan’s principled support for an independent, viable and contiguous state of Palestine established on the basis of pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He said Pakistan believed that the fresh spate of violence in Gaza was the result of unabated repression, continued human rights violations and state-sponsored sacrilege of the Al-Aqsa mosque.

“Conflating this war with terrorism will be naïve and taking a narrow and self-serving view of the issue as an isolated attack obscure the brutal oppression spanning decades that has led to this outcome,” he remarked and expressed condolences on the loss of Palestinian lives in the ongoing war in Gaza. He said incessant attacks on civilian populations, schools, universities, aid workers, hospitals, and the forced exodus of Palestinians from Gaza were manifest crimes against humanity. He reiterated the call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, opening a humanitarian corridor to Gaza, protection of civilians, and adherence to international humanitarian law.
