Global Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach actually plans to meet Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai in Beijing during the Games, an IOC representative said Sunday.
“We’ve generally said that there will be a gathering here, and that has not changed,” IOC representative Mark Adams told correspondents at a news meeting in Beijing.
“As the president persuasively said, we would chat with her and it would be dependent upon her to conclude what and what wouldn’t be said.”
Peng, one of China’s most unmistakable competitors, blamed previous Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli of forcing her into sex, as per screen captures of a since-erased web-based media post dated Nov. 2.
Worry about her security and whereabouts developed after her charges, with the Women’s Tennis Association pulling out of China.
Over a month after the fact in December, Peng denied making the claims in a meeting with Singapore-based Chinese-language paper Lianhe Zaobao.
“I have never spoken or expounded on anybody physically attacking me,” she said, adding she has “been free all of the time” and that she has been residing at her home in Beijing.
