The Election Commission of Pakistan announced on Tuesday that according to the proposed schedule, presidential candidates will be able to file their nomination papers till noon on March 2.

In a statement issued here, the Election Commission of Pakistan said according to Article (4)41 of the Constitution, the election of the President of Pakistan must be held within 30 days after the conduct of general elections. According to Articles 91 and 130 of the Constitution, the first sitting of all assemblies must be held within 21 days after the election.

“On February 29, 2024, all assemblies will come into being and thus the required electoral college for the election of the president will be completed. On March 1, 2024, the Election Commission will issue a public notice and schedule for the election of the president. According to the Constitution, a day will be fixed for submission of nomination,” it noted.

The Election Commission said according to the proposed programme, candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers to any presiding officer till 12:00 pm on March 2. Therefore, all interested candidates can get their nomination papers from Tuesday from the Election Commission Secretariat Islamabad and the Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
